Stefan Umdasch is a multi talented Austrian artist.
Born in 1963, Stefan Umdasch graduated at Vienna’s University of Applied Arts in 1990. He has been working as a renowned industrial and interior designer ever since focusing on concepts for retail and exhibitions.
Stefan’s work has revolved around designing furniture and lighting, but it is his glass products for which he is acclaimed. These objects sell worldwide and some of them have been added to important collections such as the Museum Of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York.
Stefan’s work in industrial design transfers to his art; all his sketches and drawings are created by hand on paper and this is where the close link to his Motor Art Work blends in perfectly. This very special type of art derives from his deep love for classic cars.
From childhood, Stefan drew cars and always wanted to become a car designer, but, designing automobiles changed to such a great extent in the 1980’s, that he saw his original dream fade and moved on to designing interiors and industrial products. He kept drawing cars instead of designing them – initially as a hobby and although Stefan launched and successfully sold his first limited classic car edition prints 27 years ago, it took him several years to establish his Motor Art Work as a third pillar in his professional work. His great passions are British and Italian classics of the sixties and seventies, Stefan loves to study their details and his eye for detail produces art that is both aesthetically pleasing and mechanically correct.
Stefan’s approach to art is as classical as his subjects, he prefers to start the construction of a piece with ink on paper to build up the lines of the vehicle, forming the structure of the bodywork, chrome and interior before the final colour is applied in oil. This is the only medium he uses to create a contemporary, yet classical feel to his art.
